Hans J. Wegner

Completed his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker in 1931. After two years of training at the College of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, Wegner was employed as a furniture designer in the architect office of Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller. In 1943 Wegner started his own design company. Numerous exhibitions and awards since 1932, including the C. F. Hansen Medal 1982 and the Danish Design Council annual prize 1987.

With a deep understanding of furniture as a tool for everyday life, the designs of Wegner are characterized by a dedication and adherence to functionality and comfort. His works are not only artistic and beautiful, they are practical and useful as well.
